Notes!
Hello Everyone,
This is just a reminder that it is so important to check your child's bag each night as there is activities for the kids to complete along with IMPORTANT INFORMATION that you need to see. I have many students come to school with questions about activities that might be happening in our school, and I remind them that their parents received papers.
Along with that I have been sharing with students that backpacks have information for parents and it is important not to get papers out until they are with you. Some are opening bags and daycare and in bus lines. If you could reinforce to note open bags until they are with you we might have better classroom communication.
Thank you for all you are doing for our students, it is great to see the growth they have all made!

E-mail From Superintendent
PLEASE LOOK IN YOUR CHILDS BACKPACK FOR OUR CLASS PLAN FOR CONFERENCES!!!! The note went home WEDNESDAY!!!! I have also posted this on the blog as well!
Thank you!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to congratulate our two wrestlers and the girls' basketball team and their coaches for making it to the state tournament. The girls are scheduled to play at3:15 PM in Des Moines next Tuesday, March 1.
Two types of decisions drive superintendents bonkers - weather decisions and what to do about state tournament games. No matter what is decided, the superintendent always loses. Complicating things in this instance is that parent-teacher conferences are also scheduled for next Tuesday evening.
After consulting with the principals, it was decided to have school next Tuesday, however, we will have a three hour early out. Students will be fed lunch before all students are dismissed. For those wanting to attend the game, this should allow plenty of time for students and staff members to make it in time.
Next Tuesday evening's conferences will be delayed until Wednesday, March 9. Since that is an early out day, conferences will start at 2:00 PM and go until6:00 PM. In that way, parent-teacher conferences can conclude in time for Family Night. More information about the scheduling of these conferences will come from your child(ren)'s school.
If the girls win on Tuesday, they play their next game on Thursday, March 3starting at 6:45 PM. School will not be affected but parent-teacher conferences are also scheduled for that night. The decision about those conferences will not be made until the outcome of Tuesday's game is known.
I appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we face this scheduling difficulty. However, from my perspective, this is a nice difficulty to have.
Go Hawks.

CONFERENCES!!!!!
CONFERENCE INFORMATION!!!!
PLEASE READ!!!!
Hello Everyone,
As many of you may know our girl’s basketball team has made it to the
state tournament! They play on Tuesday March 1st at 3:15 in Des
Moines. To accommodate for the game school will be let out 3 HOURS EARLY on
that day. This is also the day of our conferences. I am NOT planning on attending the game, so
with that in mind I am planning on keeping my conferences the SAME for Tuesday
March 1st! So if you are
scheduled for conferences on Tuesday March 1st we will keep them the
same unless you tell me otherwise. I am hoping that this will eliminate
confusion with rescheduling.
The next re-schedule for Tuesday’s
conferences is set for Wednesday March 9th from 2-6. If you plan to
attend the game and wish to change your conference to Wednesday please e-mail
me and we will work out a time.
Otherwise I look forward to seeing you
ALL on your ORIGINAL scheduled Conference date and time on TUESDAY MARCH 1st!
FYI- At this time Thursday conferences
(MARCH 3rd) are not affected and will continue as normal!
Thanks!
Kara

Last Week and This Week
We continued work on story elements and focused on summarizing and retelling stories. Children read the reader's theater story, We Like Fruit. We worked on the proper intonation and on fluency.
Tricky words introduced were: old, have, like (last week) and live, give, little (this week).
In math the class worked on lots of counting by 5's, 10's and 1's to one hundred. They played a growing and shrinking train game with dice and cubes and did addition and subtraction by counting up and back on the number line. We worked on the "tricky teens" and enjoyed seeing the various sets of 100 items brought for 100 day. Each child placed Froot Loops on a one hundred chart, then strung them on ribbon to create a necklace. We also practiced counting along with the Macarena 100 song!

On Tuesday, Mrs. Troyer brought Kollin in for the baby shower. Here are several pictures!

Since we are getting close to Valentine's Day, the kids worked to make a heart decoration for display in the hall. They look awesome!
