Hello Everyone!
Wow that first week of October went really FAST!!! We have completed our first round of assessments for our students at the state level with the FAST assessment, and we have also completed our DRA assessment which allows me to place students in their appropriate book reading levels. That is what your child has brought home as their BookIT! Book. I wanted to let you all know that as long as you do some type of reading you can color in the calendar, we are really trying to foster reading exposure. The next few weeks we will also be completing assessments for report cards...yes I said report cards, we are at that time already!
Next Thursday is our apple orchard field trip, if you checked that you would like to attend with us, be looking for a note coming home early next week. Thank you for taking the time to come along with us!
We also have started some fun ways to keep classroom expectations as a priority. We now have a secret walker, star super student, and "caught being quiet". For students that are following expectations, could get extra Ipad time and a special piece of paper. They have really been enjoying it and I love seeing them excited! We also filled the marble jar up...so we had a Just Dance Party...perfect for a Friday! :-)
I also wanted to address a small recess issue. Every morning and throughout the day we have jobs that each kiddo needs to complete. They get a reminder, but if they forget they "owe minutes" I want to let you all know that this is truly "1 minute". I set a timer to remind me so that everyone can make it out on time. We talk about how it is so important to be independent in our classroom, and try to remember our jobs for the next day. Independence is something that we are really working on and it is so important for them to recognize this at both school and home. So I am just clearing and confusion up about the amount of minutes kiddos are owing. :-) Short and sweet it seems to be just enough!
Again if you ever have any questions please contact me!
Thanks and have a great weekend!
